Aesthetic and Dermatology Practice

The rules that bite in a cosmetic practice

A cosmetic practice is sold on faces and paid in cash, and it is the specialty a Council, a consumer commission and a regulator each notice first. Almost everything a dermatologist or aesthetic doctor has been told about the law of that practice is second hand: who may inject, what a "cosmetologist" is, whether a filler is a drug, who licenses the laser, what a before-and-after photograph is allowed to say, and what happens when a patient who chose the procedure dislikes the result. This course sets each of those against the instrument, the clause and the decided case, tells you where the law is silent, and leaves you a document you can use on Monday.

Prepared and taught by Dr. Rupal V. Rana, MBBS, DCH, LLB, LLM, Medicolegal Expert and Founder, DoctorLawyer™, in consultation with an empanelled advocate of the High Court of Bombay.

Founding price

Rs. 2,999then Rs. 4,999

The founding price is limited to the first 200 enrolments. The standing price after that is Rs. 4,999.

Why the two figures, plainly. Rs. 4,999 is the standing price of this course, and the system that takes your payment is set to charge it from the 201st enrolment. Rs. 2,999 is the founding price for the first 200 places. It is an early place, not a discount. The course does not change between the two prices, other than the dated updates every course in the Academy receives, and a later rise never applies to a course you have already paid for.

One payment, no subscription and no renewal. Twelve months of access to all eight modules, all ten quizzes and the certificate. A later price rise never applies to a course you have already paid for, and nothing further is ever charged for it.

Read module one before you buy

Module one and its quiz open without payment, so you can see the writing, the depth and the way the questions work before you decide. No card, nothing charged, and nothing charged later unless you choose to buy.

No payment and no card. You can buy the full course afterwards, or not.

Or buy the whole course now

Want both Academy courses? The two together are one payment, with a combined credential when you finish both.

Enrol

We ask for very little: no medical registration number and no identity number.

Please enter your name exactly as you want it printed on your certificate. The certificate is issued in the name on your enrolment, letter for letter, including the title and any initials. Write to us before you finish the course if it needs changing, because a certificate that has issued has to be withdrawn and reissued.

By enrolling you confirm that you are at least eighteen years of age, and that clause 9.1 of the Terms of Enrolment describes you, or that you have told us that it does not. We do not ask for your medical registration number and you must not give it to us.

Payment is taken by Razorpay. Card details are never seen by us and never touch this site.

What you will be able to do when you have finished

Not what you will have heard about. What you will be able to do, on a Tuesday, with the thing in your hand.

  1. Say who on your premises may lawfully do what, with the instrument behind each answer, and know that "cosmetologist" has no meaning in law and where the criminal bar actually sits in Maharashtra.
  2. Run every phrase and image in your marketing through reg. 6.1.1, the Consumer Protection Act and the CCPA Guidelines, and know which of baldness, fairness and premature ageing are in the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act Schedule (none of them).
  3. Take and record a consent for an elective procedure that names the risk that has decided the reported cases, and know why the record and not the outcome wins.
  4. Hold toxin, fillers and peels lawfully: what is a drug, what is a cosmetic, what is a Class D implant, what CDSCO said on 18 May 2026, and how to read a supplier's licence.
  5. Keep a device file for every laser, IPL, RF and HIFU machine, knowing no Indian authority licenses a Class 4 laser in a clinic and what that means for the standard of care.
  6. Answer a complication, a refund demand or a complaint in the right order, and know what a consumer commission has actually awarded for, and never for.
  7. Write a package and prepayment term a District Commission would read as fair, and know which forum hears an unfair-term challenge.
  8. Take two consents for every patient image, keep an image register, and take a face down the day consent is withdrawn.

How much of your time this takes

About six hours in total, and none of it has to be done in one sitting. The course remembers where you are, on any device you open it on.

How the course runs, start to certificate

1
Eight written modules. About twelve minutes each, read in any order, at your own pace, on a phone or a laptop. Recorded versions are being filmed and are added to your course when released, at no charge, inside your twelve months. Every legal proposition carries the case, section or regulation it rests on, so you can check it. Each module also leaves you a document you can use: a staffing scope sheet, a pre-publication check for a cosmetic practice, five procedure-specific consent skeletons, a product register and supplier documents check, a device file checklist and parameter log, a complication first-response and refund decision sheet, package terms wording, and an image consent and register.
2
A scored quiz at the end of each module. Five applied questions, not definitions: a situation, and what you would do. Four out of five to pass. Retake it as often as you like, and the authority is explained on every answer, right and wrong. Your best score is the one kept.
3
A final quiz across all eight modules. It opens once you have passed all eight module quizzes. Sixteen questions, two drawn from each module, twelve out of sixteen to pass. Your sixteen are not the same as anybody else’s. Retake it as often as you need.
4
A certificate of completion, issued once the eight module quizzes and the final quiz are all passed. It is signed by Dr. Rupal V. Rana, MBBS, DCH, LLB, LLM, and carries a number anyone you show it to can check on this site. It is a certificate of completion: not a diploma, not a certification, not recognised by any Medical Council, the National Medical Commission, any university or any Bar body, and it carries no continuing medical education credit.

The eight modules, and what each one leaves you able to do

01What you may do, what you may delegate, and what has no name in lawYou will be able to place every person on your premises in a category with a legal footing or none, record each delegation so that the supervision and training behind it can be proved, and read your own sign board and prescription pad against the closed list in reg. 7.13.Open first
02Before and after: the claims a cosmetic practice makesYou will be able to run every phrase and image in a cosmetic advertisement against the instrument that governs it, decide what to keep and what to cut, and open the substantiation file that defends what you keep.12 min
03Consent for a procedure nobody neededYou will be able to build a procedure-specific consent form for any elective aesthetic procedure that names the risks that have decided Indian complaints, and assemble the conversation record and file that answer a consent allegation on documents rather than on memory.12 min
04The products: toxin, fillers, peels and the line between a drug and a cosmeticYou will be able to place every product in your stock room on the right side of the drug, device or cosmetic line from its own documents, name the Schedule and the licence each one rests on, and demand from each supplier the specific document that proves lawful import and sale.12 min
05The devices: lasers, IPL, RF and HIFU, and who regulates themYou will be able to open a device file for every energy device in your clinic, read its risk class off the supplier's licence rather than guessing it, say which regulator does and does not apply to it, and run a parameter log and laser room card that a consumer commission would accept as the record.12 min
06When it goes wrong: complications, refund demands and the consumer route for elective workYou will be able to work a complication or refund demand through a fixed sequence, identify from your own file whether a refund is owed in law or is a commercial choice, and assemble the defence file in the order a Commission or Council will ask for it.12 min
07Packages, prepayment and the promise you did not mean to makeYou will be able to rewrite a prepaid package's terms so that validity, missed sessions, early stopping and a mid-course contraindication each carry a stated, defensible consequence, and identify which tier of consumer commission a package complaint actually reaches.12 min
08Her face is the product: photographs, publishing and the patient onlineYou will be able to separate the three questions a patient image raises (who owns the file, whether the person may be shown, and when it must come down), run two consents and a register for every image your clinic publishes, and take an image down properly when a patient withdraws.12 min
BRunning it as a business: the company, the chain and the doctor who answers Bonus, freeYou will be able to map, for any clinic owned by a company or a chain, which entity holds each licence and record, which payments engage the fee-splitting and agent clauses, who answers to the patient and who answers to the Council, and put a fixed set of written questions to both indemnity policies.Free bonus · 20 min

The bonus module is included and costs nothing extra. The company behind the clinic, the medispa chain, the employed dermatologist and who answers to the Council: the 2002 Regulations contain no bar on a company owning a clinic, and the clauses that actually bite are not the ones usually cited. It sits outside the eight: it is not in the final quiz and it is not needed for the certificate. It has its own scored quiz for anyone who wants one.

This is education, not advice on your matter. Nothing in the primer is advice about any particular patient, complaint, notice or case, and reading it does not create a relationship of adviser and client.

It is not clinical teaching. No module tells you how to treat anybody.

Nothing is promised as an outcome. No course prevents a complaint, and none of this guarantees how any forum will decide anything.

Where a matter needs a lawyer, we say so. Representation before any forum, and any formal legal opinion, is arranged separately with an advocate of the High Court of Bombay and is charged separately.
